AC Installation: 7 Important Things You Need To Pay Attention To

Multiple things can go wrong during the installation of your brand-new split air conditioner. If you are investing in a split ac, you would want it to work efficiently for a long period. In simple words, you would want sufficient cooling to help you and your family remain comfortable after the split ac is installed.

If you are someone that is looking to invest in a new split ac, you want to pick out a unit with a higher power rating (three stars and above), consumes lesser electricity, and has a long life.

Ultimately, many of the above things depend on how well the split ac has been installed. In this article, we try to help split ac owners with the seven most important things you need to pay attention to during the installation process.

What is a Split Air Conditioner?

Have you ever imagined why a split air conditioner is called by this terminology- Split?

This is a technical nomenclature that suggests that the ‘split’ in essence is because the unit is composed of two units-

  • Air Handling Unit
  • Condensing Unit

The Air Handling Unit is what is located within your room that helps in the flow of cooled air. This is the rectangle piece of machine that is installed within your room. A Condensing Unit is typically a square machine, with a large fan, that is located outside the room, in an open area.

As the Condensing Unit is not located in the room itself, a split ac does not have a lot of sound or noise coming from it. This is because the compressor, that is responsible for most of the noise is in the Condensing Unit that is situated outside.

List of 7 Important Things you need to pay attention to when Installing a Split AC

  1. The Height of the Air Handling Unit from the Ground-

If you have seen Window AC Units, you would have noticed that they are located on the windows that are just a few feet from the ground. However, a split ac unit to work efficiently requires it to be installed at least seven or eight feet from the ground. This allows for the best air circulation that optimizes complete cooling and lower power consumption.

  1. The Amount of Free Space in the Sides of the Split AC Unit-

Many people make the mistake of installing a split ac unit right at the corner of the wall, at the intersection of the ceiling. According to experts, this is not the correct way to install. There should be a free space of at least two to three feet all around the split ac. This helps in ensuring that the airflow coming into the machine is smooth and unobstructed.

  1. The Strength of the Wall and whether it will be able to withstand the weight-

Even though the Air Handling Unit of a split ac unit is lesser in weight as compared to the condensing unit, it is nevertheless quite heavy. The wall on which the split ac is installed needs to be solid and should not suffer from vibrations when the split ac is working. Wooden or cardboard walls that are just created as a partition should not be used to install a split ac.

  1. Pay Attention to the Location of the Condensing Unit-

When paying attention to the location of the air handling unit (the one in the room) do not forget about the condensing unit located outside. According to experts, while the condensing unit needs to be outside, it is best to ensure that it is avoiding direct sunlight. While complete protection from natural elements will not be possible, you should try for as much shade as possible.

  1. The Distance between the Air Handling Unit and the Condensing Unit-

You need to understand that both the machines work in complete synchronization to ensure proper cooling. The copper wires or tubes through which the coolant flows from the condensing unit to the air handling unit need to be at a minimum. In terms of the exact length, the distance between the two should be no more than 15 meters. The lower the distance, the better it is.

  1. The Mounting of the Outdoor Air Condensing Unit-

The Air Condensing Unit that is located outside is heavy, and the large fans make it vibrate dangerously. This means that the mounting needs to be checked and rechecked to ensure that it does not fall off. When you are using brackets, make sure you are structurally fortifying the same in the best possible fashion. Do not place the unit directly at a floor level at any time.

  1. Working with a Split AC Installation Expert-

As you can see from the list above, installing a split ac is not an easy task. This is why you need to make sure that you are always working with the best when it comes to air conditioning installations, servicing, or maintenance of your split ac. Check for years of experience and pricing whenever you are researching technicians of companies that can help in installation.

Summary

A split ac is a wonderful machine that can help you work, sleep and stay comfortably at all times. Paying attention to the above-mentioned list of important things means that your split ac unit will serve you for a long time in the future.
